Achievements
Over the last five years Build Africa's work on HIV/AIDS has made significant progress promoting safer sex practices by young people.
- Training of peer educators and the establishment of health clubs has increased awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention to over 20,000 children at 32 schools.
- The number of young people volunteering for counselling and HIV testing in Kenya has increased from 20% to 46%, surpassing our target by 6%.
- More than half of all students surveyed in the schools we work with can name three ways in which to prevent HIV. This is in comparison to just 17% of the adult population of Uganda.
- There has also been good progress in reducing the percentage of girls dropping out of school due to pregnancy or early marriage.
